Lola's Room At The Crystal Ballroom
Portland, Oregon | October 9th, 2004

On my way into town Saturday evening I happened to be listening to KINK when they did the rundown on what's happening in town that night. When the DJ got to this show he stated "this is gonna be a great show - definitely a must see show." And this was only their second official gig.
Reputations are built on consistency. For their second show this year they surely are getting the word out fast. Like a bad date - word gets around.

Well this DJ was correct. With a first set that was patient and enjoyable the boys entertained the crowd, all the while smirking with confidence as they knew there was SO much more to come. Check out the setlist for highlights. Again they merged the familiar with the obscure, filling the space between with insults and dedications. True Bad Dates style.

The second set the horn section picked up their brass and the full band plus special guest John Harris on the washboard was ready to rock. I hear a bootleg of the show is floating around, just can't wait to get my hands on it!

The night was dedicated to Rob Vallance, long time McMenamins Brewer and epic Bad Date, who turned 40 that very evening - you'd have never known it, from the looks of things he was partying like a freshman at a UCLA frat party, must be all his friends form L.A. bringing him back to his youthful ways. Keep it up buddy.
